Since 1 August 2024, the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (“IRBM”) has begun the phased implementation of e-Invoicing, as announced in October 2023. E-Invoicing allows businesses to create and submit invoices electronically to the IRBM, supporting the government’s initiative to enhance digital infrastructure and modernise tax administration. This new system applies to all taxpayers engaged in commercial activities within Malaysia, including those involved in the supply of goods and services.
What is e-Invoicing?
E-Invoicing is a form of electronic billing or electronic tax invoice. An e-Invoice is a digital representation of a transaction between a supplier and a buyer. It replaces traditional paper or electronic documents such as invoices, credit notes, and debit notes.
About Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad’s e-Invoice Implementation
Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad (“PruBSN”) is subject to mandatory e-Invoicing implementation starting from 1 August 2024. To ensure a smooth transition and implementation of e-Invoicing, the IRBM has agreed to provide taxpayers a six-month interim relaxation period from the date of mandatory implementation. During this period, PruBSN has adopted a consolidated e-Invoice and consolidated self-billed e-Invoice approach. Therefore, no individual e-Invoice or individual self-billed e-Invoice was issued during this interim relaxation period.
Following the relaxation period, PruBSN has begun issuing individual e-Invoices in compliance with IRBM requirements starting February 2025. This has been carried out in phases as follows:
Phase 1: Self-billed e-Invoices for claims, benefits payouts and surplus payments to business customers started in March 2025.
Phase 2: E-Invoices for takaful contribution received by PruBSN will be available starting from February 2026, covering business and non-business customers.
