Kuala Lumpur, 15 October 2024 – As part of its broader sustainability strategy, Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad (PruBSN), Malaysia’s leading family Takaful operator, has joined hands with Waqaf An-Nur Corporation Berhad (“Waqaf An-Nur”) to launch An-Nur Care, a pioneering initiative that will provide free outpatient medical coverage to over 500 individuals from the Asnaf community.
According to the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2023, 61.5% of outpatient visits are paid out of pocket by the patients or their family members and around 12.9% of Malaysians did not seek medical treatments due to financial constraints.
This highlights that healthcare access remains one of the most significant challenges for low-income families, especially in underserved segments like the Asnaf group. An-Nur Care seeks to bridge this gap by offering essential medical coverage for General Practitioner consultations and treatments for twelve months with an overall annual limit of RM 300. This initiative reflects the commitment of PruBSN and Waqaf An-Nur to not only provide immediate assistance but also to drive long-term positive change in the communities it serves.
An-Nur Care is among the key pillars in PruBSN’s overarching sustainability framework, focusing on building stronger and more resilient communities through equitable access to healthcare. The program represents a concrete step in PruBSN’s sustainability efforts to tackle healthcare disparities in Malaysia. By combining resources with Waqaf An-Nur, they are creating an impactful initiative that ensure healthcare is not just a privilege for the few, but a right for all.
“Our collaboration with Waqaf An-Nur is driven by our mutual commitment to sustainable development. PruBSN’s mission has always been centered around empowering individuals and communities by providing protection for all. Through An-Nur Care, we are reaffirming our commitment to ensure that healthcare accessibility is extended to those who need it most,” said Wan Saifulrizal Wan Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of PruBSN. “Our sustainability strategy goes beyond environmental responsibility; it’s about building a society where financial and social stability are attainable for all segments of society, including the most vulnerable.”
The An-Nur Care initiative is more than a one-time intervention. It aligns with both organizations’ long-term goal of creating sustainable healthcare solutions. By offering healthcare access to those who might otherwise be excluded, this initiative is part of a larger ambition to foster resilience and stability among disadvantaged communities.
Haji Bukhari Abdul Rahman, Chief Executive of Waqaf An-Nur, echoed these sentiments, adding, “At Waqaf An-Nur, we believe that sustainable impact comes from addressing the root causes of inequity, including access to healthcare. Our partnership with PruBSN underscores our joint mission to provide long-term, impactful solutions for the underserved, ensuring that sustainability is not just a concept, but a lived reality for communities like the Asnaf group. This aligns with our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and adheres to the Maqasid Shariah principles, which emphasize the protection of life, intellect, and wealth.”
PruBSN and Waqaf An-Nur aim to expand this initiative further to reach a broader segment of the Asnaf community, ensuring that more individuals can access the healthcare they need. "We invite all stakeholders and members of the community to join us in making a lasting impact through Waqaf initiatives. With your contribution to An-Nur Care, we can collectively ensure that more individuals in the Asnaf community receive the medical protection they urgently require. Together, we can make a significant impact and extend our reach to bring hope and security to those in need," added Haji Bukhari.
The launch of An-Nur Care is in line with PruBSN’s wider efforts to support national sustainability agendas, such as the Skim Insurans Kesejahteraan Rakyat, which has provided life protection to 300,000 people from the bottom tiers of the B40 segment in 2024. PruBSN remains dedicated to expanding its takaful offerings to cater to underserved communities, addressing both their immediate and long-term healthcare needs through targeted and inclusive initiatives.
Through initiatives like An-Nur Care, PruBSN and Waqaf An-Nur demonstrate how businesses can work together to address critical social issues while remaining true to their sustainability agendas.
