8 Takaful Things
Every Pregnant Couple Should Know

a baby bump

Bringing a child into this world is a joyous, stressful and uncertain experience, especially for first time parents. From planning your new future to preparing your family financially, putting a nursery together or even deciding your child’s name, there are countless things you need to be ready for before your baby comes into the world.

With so many responsibilities on your plate, getting yourself or the expectant mother and your unborn child protected by takaful coverage is possibly the furthest thing from your mind. However, pregnancy is not always a smooth journey for both mother and child. If pregnancy related complications do occur, it can lead your future child to develop child-related illnesses, resulting in significantly higher hospitalisation bills than initially anticipated.

Instead of worrying about possible pregnancy complications that may result in financial impact, consider signing up for a suitable Shariah-compliant plan for you and your loved ones. It can provide you with peace of mind as you begin this new, unknown journey as future parents.

1. Expectant mothers and unborn children can apply for takaful protection from 14 gestational weeks onwards
PruBSN Impian protects expecting mothers and unborn children from as early as 14 gestational weeks with a minimum monthly contribution of only RM50 a month.

2. Complications can occur throughout pregnancy
Pregnancy complications are fairly common and can include high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, preterm labor and even pregnancy loss. PruBSN Impian with Infant Secure rider provides financial protection for both expectant mothers and their unborn children in the event of specific complications such as abruption placentae, amniotic fluid embolism and pre-eclampsia.

Besides reimbursements for outpatient treatments or hospitalisation*, the certificate also includes death benefits for your child from the day the plan is approved, even if he or she is yet to be born.

3. Childhood-related injuries and illnesses are common
Childhood is a time for carefree fun and growth, as well as the high possibility of contracting an injury or child-related illness. Be it a broken arm, a common illness such as asthma, or rarer childhood diseases, the HealthProtector rider under PruBSN Impian will reimburse all hospitalisation and outpatient fees* until your child turns 25 years old. You will also receive a lump sum payment should your child be diagnosed with any of the 43 critical illnesses – a benefit that remains active throughout the coverage period with the Crisis Protector rider.

4. It is never too late to protect your child with takaful
If you missed out on signing up for PruBSN Impian for your child while they were still in the womb, fret not. All children from 14 gestational weeks to 18 years of age are eligible to participate in and receive the benefits and protection from this takaful certificate.

5. Consider a long-term takaful certificate
With an expiry option of up to 100 years old, the protection and benefits your child receives with PruBSN Impian is for life. Apart from pregnancy-related coverage, the protection and benefits that come with this certificate will continue to apply throughout your child’s life, from childhood to adulthood.

Coverage for childhood illnesses via Vital Care Plus will automatically convert to a Crisis Protector rider so it continues to remain relevant after your child turns 25. Other riders can also be added on to further customise your protection requirements or give further medical and or financial protection.

6. A bonus reward can encourage academic excellence
Encourage your child to achieve academic excellence through EduAchieve Bonus. PruBSN Impian will give your child a cash reward for achieving excellent results in national-level examinations or courses offered through accredited public universities in Malaysia.

7. Start saving early for your child’s future

With Takaful Saver Impian, PruBSN Impian becomes a savings solution and any investment returns earned via this investment-linked plan can be given as a cash gift to your child once they turn 19. These returns can be used for their higher education, to purchase a gift, contribute to their savings, or provide some financial support towards their dreams and plans. Moreover, you need not worry as PruBSN Impian is a fully shariah-compliant plan.

8. The worst-case scenario can happen
As parents, we want to ensure our child remains protected if the worst were to happen. Contributor Parent Protect is an additional rider that ensures contributions to your child’s certificate should you pass away, incur a total permanent disability, or contract one of the listed critical illnesses. Contributor Parent Protect will pay all your child’s contributions until they turn 25.

All pregnant parents hope for a smooth and safe pregnancy, but there is certainly no harm in preparing for any eventuality. Pregnancy is a challenging and difficult journey, and ensuring you are medically and financially prepared shouldn’t have to be.
