Discharge Done Right

Discharge Done Right: A Patient’s Discharge Journey Story

I recalled my days spent in a bustling hospital, when I had just recovered from a serious illness. The day had finally come for me to go home, but there were several important steps to follow before leaving.

Dr. Yashotaran, my attending physician, entered the room with a warm smile. “You’re ready to go home,” he said, documenting my readiness and outlining the post-discharge care plan in my medical record.

Next, Nurse Akma came in to prepare me for the journey ahead. She conducted a thorough assessment, provided essential education about my condition, and patiently answered all of my questions. “Remember, if you have any doubts, just give us a call,” she reassured me.

Nurse Akma made sure I understood my condition, the medications, and the follow-up plan. “It’s crucial to take your meds on time and follow the doctor’s instructions,” she emphasized.

 

 


The hospital pharmacy, Pharmacist Zafika handed over my medications. “Here are your prescriptions. Let me explain the dosages and possible side effects,” he said, ensuring I was well-informed.

The hospital also coordinated with my primary care doctor and specialists. “We’ve informed your doctors about your discharge and follow-up needs,” Nurse Akma said, ensuring a seamless transition.

Before leaving, I received a detailed discharge summary.  It included  all the information I needed about my diagnosis, medications and upcoming appointments.

Billing & Expenses

At the billing office, Clerk Imran  compiled all the necessary medical records, treatment notes, and billing information. “We need to ensure the charges are correct,” he said.

Imran reviewed the records, identifying and coding the procedures, medications, and services I received. “This helps us prepare an accurate invoice,” he noted.

Finally, Imran handed over the invoice to me.  “Here’s a breakdown of everything,” he explained to me.

Claims Assessment by PruBSN

As I waited, a copy of invoice was sent to my Takaful company, PruBSN. I was told that they needed to examine each expense to confirm its legitimacy and necessity. Only the necessary expenses are covered to avoid any extra charges for all parties.

PruBSN have set a Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to ensure timely processing, often within 60-120 minutes of receiving complete documentation. “We aim to be efficient and minimize any delay,” they assured. However, they also warned that incomplete or inaccurate documentation could often cause delays. “The entire discharge process may take up to a few hours depending on factors such as the number of patients  and receiving  proper and complete documents, so please be patient,” they advised.

SMS Notifications for PruBSN Customers

As a PruBSN customer, I received SMS notifications after the hospital submitted the discharge documents and upon approval of my claim. “You will be kept informed every step of the way,” the hospital staff promised.

And so, with all the steps completed, I was finally ready to leave the hospital and continue my journey of recovery at home, feeling well supported due to the assurance I received and cashless convenience of my hospitalization period.
