  2. For existing customers of our medical plan(s)*, you can opt-in to revise the exclusion clause in your current medical plan(s) to enjoy Total Pandemic Protection via our Pandemic Coverage Opt-In Campaign (scroll down for more info).

Pandemic Coverage Opt-In Campaign

Existing Customers

Good news! PruBSN customers who are currently covered by one of our medical plan(s)* can opt to revise the exclusion clause on “any communicable diseases requiring quarantine by law” in your certificate and start enjoying Total Pandemic Protection at no additional cost# via our Pandemic Coverage Opt-In Campaign (“Campaign”).

Opt-in for Total Pandemic Protection during the Campaign period from 16 February 2022 to 30 November 2022, and enjoy:

  • Medical coverage when you need it the most during the current or any future pandemics.

  • Pandemic Protection as a permanent feature of your medical plan and not part of the certificate exclusion. No underwriting is required.

  • Seamless claims experience as Pre-authorisation Letter (PAL) for all panel hospitals with cashless facility will be granted.

  • No change to your current contribution or Tabarru` deduction#.

How to opt-in?

Customers with eligible medical plans will be notified via SMS or by mail from 16 February 2022 onwards.

  1. What is “communicable diseases requiring quarantine by law”?
    Communicable diseases requiring quarantine by law refers to infectious diseases or transmissible diseases that are declared as required quarantine under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988, such as COVID-19 mentioned under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Amendment of First Schedule) Order 2020.

  2. What is the impact to my contributions and Tabarru` deduction if I accept the revision to remove the “communicable diseases requiring quarantine by law” exclusion clause?
    There is no immediate change to your current contributions rate and Tabarru` deductions amount when you accept the revision to the exclusion. 

    However, as we continue to regularly review the contributions and Tabarru` deductions against the healthcare cost to ensure that you are always adequately protected, the future contributions and Tabarru` deductions review will take the Additional Coverage (i.e. coverage for “any communicable disease requiring quarantine by law”) into account. This is to ensure fair treatment to all certificate holders of the medical plan. We will notify you based on the notice period below prior to future revision of Tabarru` deductions and contributions, if any, under these medical plan(s).

    Notes: For avoidance of doubt, this review is the re-pricing review that is commonly being carried out on regular basis for all medical plans consistent with the terms of the contract and the nature of the coverage.

  3. What is the difference between contributions and Tabarru` deductions?
    Contributions
    are the amount that you pay for basic and additional benefits (if any) under your certificate. For an investment-linked takaful certificate, the contributions you paid are used to purchase units in the investment‑linked fund(s) while the remaining is used to pay upfront Wakalah deductions for your Takaful Consultant’s commission and other distribution‑related expenses.

    Tabarru` deductions is an arrangement where a portion of your allocated contribution in the investment‑linked fund(s) are deducted and pooled into the Tabarru` fund for the purpose of mutual aid and assistance according to the agreed benefits under the plan. Generally, the Tabarru` deduction amount will increase as you grow older.

  4. What happens if I do not respond before the end date mentioned in the letter? Will I be able to accept the revision in the future?
    This revision to the exclusion clause in your medical plan(s) is a limited period offer to you. If you do not respond to us before the end date, the terms to your medical plan will remain unchanged and continue to exclude the coverage for “communicable diseases requiring quarantine by law”. Any submission after the end date will not be accepted.

  5. Can I retract my decision to remove the said exclusion at a later time after I have responded with the agreement for its removal?
    No, once the revision in exclusion is accepted by you, the exclusion will be permanently removed from your medical plan(s). It is important that an informed and confirmed decision is made within the allocated time as it is not practically possible for us to cater for any subsequent change once the option is exercised.

  6. What are the medical plans that are available for the revision to the exclusion clause?
    This revision to the exclusion clause is offered to existing certificate holders with medical plans as below:
